A UK DANCE BLOG
WHERE I DANCE
It is mainly the South Coast, but sometimes elsewhere!
LOVE 2 JIVE
Waterlooville
This was the first place I learnt to dance, and because of that, it has had a really special place in my heart ever since. Every Tuesday night, without fail, you'll find me pounding the gorgeous sprung floor with the guys at Love 2 Jive. I also manage the Love 2 Jive website - let me know what you think!
JANGEL JIVE
Sarisbury Green
I discovered Jangel Jive a year or so ago, when So Ceroc closed for a week. Since then, I've been going to their small but perfect Thursday night pretty regularly, and I love it! Jangel Jive is also where I first learnt the joy of a stroll - loads of fun! I also launched their website, so again, let me know what you think!
SO CEROC
Horndean
I've been dancing at Barton Hall for almost as long as I've been dancing at Waterlooville, and So Ceroc have taken over there since the no-dance Covid times. It is a good night, especially if you are in the mood for a big old dance, and there's a lot of advanced dancers and SILC dancers every week.
MODERN JIVE PORTSMOUTH
Admiral Lord Nelson School
The monthly freestyles at ALN are incredibly popular with dancers across the South Coast, and people travel to attend! Run by Love 2 Jive DJ Andy Kale and his wife Becky, Modern Jive Portsmouth freestyles are not to be missed.
DANCE YOURSELF DIZZY
Hampshire
Dance Yourself Dizzy is run by dance powerhouse Danny, with classes across Hampshire, and freestyles all over the place! I'm a fan of the Totton freestyles, but Bramshaw is a lovely, intimate location too.
JIVEASY
Hampshire
I first encountered Jiveasy at their Portchester location, which has now closed, but there are Jiveasy classes and dances held regularly - I go to the freestyles at Titchfield and Wickham. Nigel's freestyles are usually well attended and are generally held on a Friday evening, which is great - other freestyles locally tend to be Saturdays.
CEROC WEEKENDERS
Camber Sands
I went on my first Ceroc weekender in November 2022, and I am totally addicted! With a couple of thousand dancers in attendance, the atmosphere is like nowhere else you'll dance - even if the accommodation is a bit sketchy. I wrote about my experience at my first weekender here.
INSTEP BALLROOM & LATIN
Portsmouth
Instep coach Christine is a lovely, caring teacher, who carefully walks learners through the details of ballroom - exactly what you want in a ballroom instructor! The Instep Ballroom and Latin classes are held on a Monday at Devonshire Avenue Baptist Church Hall. (stock image)
BURLESQUE CHAIR DANCE
Horndean
Sam is a brilliant instructor who is both patient, yet knows how to push her Burlesque Beauties to achieve things they never thought they would - including dancing in a show! This class takes place in Horndean, and has grown into a tightly knit group of supportive women who absolutely have each other's backs, no matter what.
